Steve Vai hails 'genius' of Brian May
According to Steve Vai, the Queen star is a genius who has a more distinctive sound than many other notable guitarists, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.
Speaking to Classic Rock magazine, he revealed that he once had the opportunity to play May's famous homemade electric guitar.
This, he stated, made him realise just how much of May's sound is down to the man himself rather than his gear.
"It was very apparent to me that his tone is in his fingers and his head," Vai commented.
"He's a class act from head to toe."
Vai gave particular praise to May's ability to orchestrate electric guitars, as this was an "unprecedented" sound that had never been heard before.
The technique was heavily used in the 1975 track Good Company, in which an electric guitar was used to simulate an entire jazz band through intricate arrangements and multi-tracking.Posted on 26 Aug 2009 18:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News
