Steve Vai guitar scholarship programme launched
Electric guitar players are to have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Steve Vai after a new scholarship programme in the musician's name was announced.
The scheme is being run by the Guitar Institute division of London's Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, with the award made up of one fully paid-for and one part-funded place on the organisation's Higher Diploma course.
Musicians interested in the scholarship are required to upload a three-minute video clip of a performance on to the programme's dedicated website before January 7th 2011.
The winner will be chosen by a combination of a public vote and the verdict of a panel of expert judges.
Paul Kirkham, director at the Institute, said: "Steve is a huge inspiration to millions around the globe and for them [musicians] to have the chance to develop their skills and talent at the Institute through his generosity is amazing."
The winning applicants will commence their studies at the Guitar Institute from September 2011.
