Steve Jobs, a music visionary, has died
Jobs, who passed away at the age of 56, helped pioneer the new, digital age in music by developing and releasing the ubiquitous iPod and iTunes.
Such was his influence that after years of negotiations with obtaining the rights to the Beatles digital catalogue finally ended with a deal in 2010.
Barack Obama said the world "has lost a visionary" with the death of Jobs.
His company, which he helped steer back into profitability and importance when he returned after an absence, said his "brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve"
In 2005, shortly after receiving surgery for pancreatic cancer, he made a moving speech at Stanford University, reflecting on his life.
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking," he said.
"Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
