Spandau Ballet to play Isle of Wight Festival
Posted on 24th Dec 2009 15:00 to category Band / Celebrity News
Electric guitar player Gary Kemp has revealed he is looking forward to Spandau Ballet's first ever outdoor festival dates.
The reformed band have been invited to play at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2010, alongside acts such as The Strokes, Calvin Harris, Pink and Jay-Z.
This is the first time the veteran group have performed at an event of this kind, as festivals were typically the domain of rock bands during their 80s heyday.
"We played clubs, then arenas and stadiums on our own," said Kemp.
"So this will be our first multi-artist event since Live Aid."
Speaking to BBC News, Kemp added that playing outdoors in the summer will mark "another new chapter" for Spandau Ballet.
The group made their name in the 1980s, becoming one of the figureheads of the New Romantic movement and notching up hits including True and Gold.
Although the five-piece group split up in 1990 following the release of Crashed Into Love, they undertook a reunion tour earlier this year.
