Sir Paul McCartney backs bid to save Abbey Road Studios
Electric guitar player Sir Paul McCartney has backed plans to safeguard the future of Abbey Road Studios, which was famously used by The Beatles to record most of their music.
Current owner EMI is reportedly planning to sell off the site in a move that could raise tens of millions for the company.
Sir Paul hinted that a consortium of people "who have been associated with the studio for a long time" are planning to make a bid so that it can remain as a working facility.
"I have got so many memories there with The Beatles," he said. "It would be lovely if somebody could get a thing together to save it."
The band used Abbey Road to record the vast majority of their songs and named their final album after the venue.
Last month, McCartney revealed that he had wanted to play bass guitar in Them Crooked Vultures but the position had already been given to Led Zeppelin star John Paul Jones.
