Simon Cowell: UK X Factor bored me
Simon Cowell has revealed the reasons behind leaving the UK X Factor – he was bored.
In a revealing interview with the Daily Mirror, the outspoken music mogul said that it was during the 2009 season of the hit TV show that he had an epiphany.
He told the newspaper: "I literally stood up and said 'I can't do this anymore.'"
"We got back on a plane. I was in a filthy mood. I thought, 'This show is boring. I don't want to do it any more'. Then I got an idea. I wanted to shoot the auditions in an arena, like concerts."
It was this revelation that made him think this kind of set up would work perfectly in the US.
The US version of the X Factor will launch in September.
Cowell, though a confident and successful businessman, responsible for some of the biggest music stars in recent times with hit artists like Leona Lewis and JLS selling records by the bucket load, is feeling a tad bit nervous.
With each episode costing approximately £2.1 million to make, the show needs to be a massive success to justify the extraordinary investment.
Given the enduring popularity of the UK version and a US audience already hooked on these types of entertainment shows, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
