Bobby Gillespie's new band made their stage debut in London on Saturday (24.07.10).

The singer's supergroup Silver Machine - which also featured his Primal Scream bandmates Andrew Innes and Barrie Cadogan, as well as former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and drummer Zak Starkey, who is best known for his work with The Who and Oasis - took to the stage at the 1234 Festival in the capital's Shoreditch Park.

The quintet delighted the crowd with a set made-up of covers of their favourite garage artists, including material made famous by MC5, The Troggs and The Flaming Groovies.

It is thought the festival appearance at the weekend was a strictly one-off performance by the group, who have not announced any further commitments together.

Earlier in the day, Peter Hook - who no longer speaks to his former Joy Division bandmates - performed his first group's seminal album 'Unknown Pleasures'.

The 'solo' performance - which was greeted with a mixed reception by fans - saw the bassist backed by a group of musicians from Manchester, with former Happy Mondays backing singer Rowetta providing guest vocals.

Other artists on the diverse line-up - which also included bands performing at the 10 after-parties going on in the area - included Wavves, F**ked Up, Flats, and We Have Band.
