The Shure Unidyne 55 is 75 years old!
75 years ago, the Shure Unidyne microphone was born. Even if you don't recognise the name, you'll certainly recognise the look of this iconic mic.

Particularly used for spoken word and public address, the Unidyne mic's story includes a cast of many celebrities and politicians over decades and historic events.

Cool and bold, it quickly became an icon in popular culture. Imagine Frank Sinatra or Elvis performing and you'll instinctively think of the Unidyne. Elvis even had a picture with it on a postage stamp. Many addresses from President JFK were made using one, and it found the way into many more historical events.

The Shure Unidyne solved common problems found by audio engineers such as feedback, background noise and unwanted reverb.

To celebrate this landmark anniversary, Shure have created a build your own Unidyne kit which you can download over on their blog, where you can also find out more about the history of the Unidyne

We had a go at making the Super 55. Download the same or choose between the Unidyne 55 and 55SH and share your creation with the hashtag #Paper55.
