Shakira gives Chavez a signed electric guitar
Shakira has given the president of Venezuela a signed red electric guitar, after the pop star visited the country in March.
The Colombian singer and dancer put her name to a red guitar, which some saw as a poignant nod to president Hugo Chavez and his socialist movement, reported Reuters.
Speaking to a state TV station, the president, said: "I was practicing last night, looking for the plugs. It's electric, a very modern guitar and I'm not used to it. I was singing some songs, old ones, a Mexican one."
He has found time ample time for the guitar as he is currently recovering from a knee injury.
Chavez thanked the Grammy award-winning Shakira for the music instrument, which she sent after a performance in Caracas.
Showing that he and his government are up on the latest social media trends, Andres Izarra, Venezuela's information minister, posted a photo of the guitar on Twitter after it arrived on Saturday.
This is not the first time Shakira has been connected to the world of politics as she was in an 11-year relationship with Antonio de la Rúa, who is the son of the former president of Argentina.
