Self-taught teen musicians 'reach music contest final'
Teenagers who taught themselves to play a range of musical instruments have made it to the final of a national competition.
Finlay Henderson and Billy Risso-Gill, aged 14, have been selected for the OrtoPilot Live Lounge vocal contest, the York Press reports.
If they win, they will receive new recording equipment which they hope to use in order to lay down some tracks for their band, Palms 13.
The duo have both taught themselves to play instruments such as ukulele, harmonica and drums, although Finlay has studied piano and saxophone to grade eight, while Billy is currently studying for his grade four guitar exam.
Martin Kettlewell, director of music at Pocklington School - where they both study - said: "Both of them are committed to their music-making and show real flair in their work.
"Keep a close eye on the names, they have the talent to go far."
Palms 13 have already published some home recordings of their songs on YouTube, with some of them gaining over 15,000 views.
They might wish to follow in the success of Mumford and Sons, whom the Daily Mirror recently explained also play a variety of instruments, such as mandolin, banjo and accordion.
