Scottish schools to be given extra investment for music
Ministers have announced that £1 million will be given out to schools across the nation to purchase new musical instruments in a bid to encourage more children to take up the subject.
The plans have been backed by teaching union EIS and the government also explained that the new Instrumental Music Group would be tasked with looking at how the teaching of music is delivered across Scottish schools.
Alasdair Allan, minister for learning, said: "The group's [Instrument Music Group] work will also examine how we ensure local musical traditions are catered for as well as studying what role the wider musical community can play in supporting our ambitions for our children."
The government explained that the group will assess the cost of musical tuition which can be significantly different across a number of councils and how it can be better promoted in schools.
With Christmas fast-approaching many parents may see this as a perfect time to purchase an instrument to encourage their children to take up the hobby.
