Schoolchildren get a lesson in excessive noise

Schoolchildren have taken part in a special lesson on the damaging effects of loud noise.
Great deals on musical instruments

Schoolchildren have been played a number of recordings of noise collected by public protection officers which include barking dogs, music instruments and amplified music, as part of a special lesson on the dangers of loud noise.

The special lesson was arranged in conjunction with last week's Noise Action Week, an annual initiative to promote awareness of the challenges of excessive noise, reported New Post Leader.

The audio recordings of music instruments and other examples of loud noise were real samples of some of the cases that officers from Northumberland County Council’s Public Protection Service have had to deal with.

The newspaper reported that schoolchildren at Bede Academy were also told specifically about the dangers of listening to music through an MP3 player at an exceptionally loud volume.

Along with "noise-induced" hearing loss, continuous listening of music at such high levels could also cause deafness.

The officers also visited licensed premises to advise owners on the issues of excessive noise and the negative impact it can have on people living nearby.

Noise Action Week is coordinated by Environmental Protection UK, a charity that provides expert advice and policy on air and land quality, waste and noise and the effect they have on individuals and communities.
