School children to get access to musical instruments
So far 650 primary school children have signed up to the weekly music lessons, where they will be introduced to a variety of instruments and provided with voice coaching lessons, Edinburgh Evening News reported.
They will be able to choose a range of wind and brass instruments as well as having access to guitars and recorders in the £125,000 musical investment.
In total, 11 Sounds Like Friday Centres are being set up across the city, which will become integral bases for promoting music.
Speaking to the newspaper, David McDonald, youth arts manager at Creative Scotland, said: "Sounds Like Friday is a fantastic programme that will provide many of Edinburgh's school children with an opportunity to learn a musical instrument or develop their vocal skills.
"Creativity plays a vital role in children and young people's development, it builds confidence and communication skills and develops our future musicians."
The children will be taught by over 70 expert tutors.
Last month the MP Valerie Vaz said that every primary school should have a piano.
