School children given chance to win musical instruments
Posted on 16 Feb 2009 15:45 to category : Instruments News
School children in Scotland are to be given the opportunity to win a selection of musical instruments, in a bid to reignite interest in classical music, it has been revealed.

According to reports in the Kilmarnock Standard, more than 1,000 youngsters will be eligible to take part in the competition, which is designed to test compositional skills.
The first prize winner will secure £10,000 worth of instruments supplied by Yamaha, while £1,000 worth of equipment will be given to five runners up.
As part of the MusicQuest initiative, which seeks to get young people interested in classical music, the children will also experience live orchestral music at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock.
As well as experiencing a performance by the Philharmonia Orchestra, the students will be able to take part in hands-on workshops.
In the sessions, youngsters will have the chance to try out a Yamaha instrument and to learn rhythms with a professional musician.
Funded by Classic FM Music Makers, MusicQuest is a three-year project.
