Rufus Wainwright back to pop
Posted on 9 Apr 2010 16:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Rufus Wainwright is enjoying writing pop records again.
The pianist singer-songwriter worked on his opera 'Prima Donna' throughout much of 2007 to 2009 but recently released his album 'All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu', and said it feels good to be working back in the pop format.
Rufus said: "I've got more of a taste for making a pop record again and to return to the freedom of the mainstream, which before I took for granted.
"It's the ability to go out there and do what you want and have it be about the moment, without that heavy-duty structure. It's very liberating."
While he has just released the record, Rufus has also been battling through tough times in his personal life, trying to come to terms with the death of his mother at the end of last year - something which keeps returning to him as he prepares to tour.
He added: "I'm doing all these rehearsals now, and things are going so well. At the end of the day I think, 'I've got to call mom and tell her how it's going.' That kind of stops me in my tracks.
"Then I have to face the undeniable fact: she's gone."
Rufus starts his tour of the UK on April 11.
