Rock music 'shaped by Gibson and Fender'
Two of the world's leading electric guitar manufacturers have been credited with steering the development of rock music over the last 50 years.
Indeed, Mr Madding described it as the musical equivalent of whether Fords are better than Chevrolets.
He noted that artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler and Jimi Hendrix have often favoured Fender Stratocasters throughout much of their careers, while artists such as The Eagles and Peter Frampton have tended to use Gibson Les Pauls.
However, Mr Madding highlighted Hendrix as an example of a musician who has used both brands, along with Eric Clapton.
"Many world renowned guitar players own both guitars for their distinctive sound and how they lend themselves to a particular song," he commented.
