Rising pop star tells songwriters not to compromise
Posted on 12 Dec 2009 10:00 to category : Music News

An emerging pop star who writes her songs on guitar has told songwriters not to compromise in order to get media coverage.
Ellie Goulding, the winner of the Critics' Choice gong at the Brit Awards, revealed that she recently met a band who said they had written a lot of "radio songs".
According to the 22-year-old, she was unimpressed with this statement, as she believes this not the right way to approach songwriting.
Indeed, Goulding told the Scotsman that songwriters should "write blind" and see what comes out.
"I am very grateful if people want to play my songs on the radio," she insisted.
"But I don't make a particular effort to get them radio-friendly."
Goulding added that she tends to write her songs with a guitar, although she admitted her early recordings were not particularly good.
She said she was so lacking in confidence when she put down her first demos that she could not bear to play her songs to other people.
This comes after Goulding told BBC News that Bjork, Imogen Heap and Beyonce Knowles are among her biggest influences.
