Rik Emmett reveals how to become a guitar hero
Posted on 21 Sep 2010 17:00 to category : Instruments News

Electric guitar player Rik Emmett has revealed the six things he believes are necessary to becoming a musical hero.
Writing on his new blog for Gibson, Emmett - who was recently voted seventh in the manufacturer's rundown of the greatest guitar players of all time - said a few key factors separate legends such as Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton from ordinary guitarists.
These points include technique, an experimental nature, creativity, an awareness of musical tradition and an ability to perform in a theatrical fashion.
The final quality a musician needs to be recognised as a great guitarist is impeccable timing - "being the right thing in the right place at the right time", Emmett said.
He added that in general, the most important thing needed for a guitar player to progress is imagination in their music-making.
"Hand in hand with that is a developing ability and desire to communicate on an emotional level," added the expert.
