Rick Wakeman is refusing to attend Yes' Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, in which the band are to be honoured for their contributions to the music industry. The ceremony is slated to take place on April the 7th at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn New York. The ceremony will also be inducting Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam and Tupac.

Via the musician's official site, Wakeman stated:

" News has broken that Yes are to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and so before the barrage of questions start arriving to the website, here are the answers to what I'm guessing will be the most asked questions... and no others will be answered!

Q: Are you pleased Yes have been inducted?

A: Well I would have been if it had happened years ago when oit was really well deserved. I find it hard to come to terms with the fact that so many bands are inducted into the Hall of Fame too late in their careers after key members have passed away. Classic examples are The Who and John Entwistle, Deep Purple and Jon Lord and now Yes and there will be no Chris Squire.

Q: Will there be a sort of Yes reunion at the induction and will you be part of that?

A: I have no idea if there will be any sort of reunion, but whatever happens under no circumstances will I be any part of it, neither will I be attending."

Co-founder and longtime bassist of the prog rock titans Chris Squire, is considered a household name within the genre and was revered by both fans and musicians alike. He was often attributed as the inspiration and pioneering force behind the scene due to his enigmatic playing style and definitive tone.

Speaking of the bassist at the time of his death, the band made it evident of the musicians integral input to the group:

"For the entirety of Yes' existence, Chris was the band's linchpin and, in so many ways the glues that held it together over all these years".

Despite Wakeman's refusal to attend, the band are still to be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame this year as previously planned.
