Richard Thompson: Guitars are easy to play
Musician Richard Thompson has put the continuing popularity of the guitar down the fact that it is fairly simple to learn how to play the instrument.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Thompson stated that he felt guitar playing has not really moved forward since the late 1960s but the appeal of rock music has helped to ensure its survival as a musical form.
"They are easy instruments to pick up and play at some level," he said.
"If you're a kid today and you want to play music people tend to go for the guitar."
Thompson is currently curating the Meltdown Festival, which involves a series of gigs at the Southbank Centre in London.
The event began on June 11th 2010 and is to run until the 21st, with performances coming from the likes of Seasick Steve, Paolo Nutini and Elvis Costello.
Broken Bells will close the event on Monday.Posted on 20 Jun 2010 09:00 to category : Music News
