Richard Clayderman holds 'private concert' for tortoises at London Zoo
The world-renowned artist serenaded endangered giant tortoises at London Zoo with his famous track Ballade Pour Adeline. The performance is designed to encourage the species to mate.
It is also part of Clayderman's record company's campaign to promote the pianist's new album, Romantique.
London Zoo's Galapagos tortoises consist of 70-year-old Dirk and females Dolores, 13, and Dolly and Polly, both 17 and were impressed with the rendition of Clayderman's biggest selling recording of all time. He also performed themes from West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet.
It is hoped that the romantic music does much more than just intrigue the endangered species and that they become more amorous.
Galapagos tortoises are the largest of their kind and live for well over 150 years, however, their species is now under threat due to their inability to fight off predators when out in the wild.
Keepers at the zoo hope that Clayderman's famous song will spring the gentle creatures into life and help them re-populate to help boost the falling numbers across the globe.
