Research assesses how musical instrument players hear sound differently
Posted on 21 Aug 2012 13:24 to category : Instruments News

The research, which is taking place at Birkbeck, University of London, will involve violin players and non violin players attending listening sessions and having an MRI scan in an attempt to show how the two groups hear things differently.
It is thought that the MRI scan will show up some physical differences in the participants' brains.
One participant in the study, 19-year-old Alice Didlick, who plays for the Ray of Light Orchestra in London, told the Kidderminster Shuttle that she is really looking forward to the research.
"I'm really looking forward to taking part in the study as it's not an everyday opportunity for someone who lives in Cookley," she said.
"I'm a bit nervous about the MRI Scan, that seems slightly daunting but overall I'm excited," she added.
This is not the first study to assess the differences between musicians and non musicians, with previous research showing that there are structural brain differences.
