Martin Scorsese's new documentary reveals a complex figure in George Harrison

The remaining members of The Beatles came together for the London premiere of Martin Scorsese's new documentary on George Harrison and paid tribute to their former bandmate and friend.

Sir Paul McCartney called Harrison, who played guitar for the world's most famous band, a "great man" at the premiere of George Harrison: Living in the Material World.

He was joined by Ring Starr, who played drums in the Fab Four, Harrison's widow Olivia along with her son Dhani, John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and a number of high profile celebrities including Ronnie Wood and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Speaking to the BBC, McCartney said: "Every time I see something to do with George it brings back more memories than you would believe.

"He was my little mate on the school bus. A lot of fond memories. He's sorely missed by us all."

The film, which took Scorsese the best part of five years to make, dedicates equal time to Harrison's career in The Beatles and his solo career, looking at the complex life of a man who was always seen as the quiet one.

Harrison passed away at the age of 58 in 2001 after a battle with lung cancer.
