Recycled wood is excellent for building music instruments
A talented craftsman has revealed that he is a fan of using reclaimed wood to build high-quality music instruments.
Rick Kelly, owner of Carmine Street Guitars in New York, told DNAinfo.com that he made his first acoustic guitar with wood that came from a New York building three years ago.
What made it even more special was that the wood came from film director Jim Jarmusch, who has made cult films like Broken Flowers and Coffee and Cigarettes.
He explained that reclaimed wood was particularly good because it's already cured and seasoned.
Mr Kelly told the online news provider: "After I made that first one that was so amazing I thought 'I've got to keep doing this.'
"The resin in the wood crystallises and opens up the pores for vibration, creating resonance."
He's not the only one who uses recycled wood to build guitars.
