Rare musical instruments going under the hammer
Posted on 12 Mar 2009 11:26 to category : Instruments News
A number of rare stringed musical instruments are to be sold by auction house Christie's next month.

Legendary singing cowboy Roy Rogers used to own the instrument, which was the first to be built from a limited run of 15. Before it was discovered, it was thought that there were only 14 of the 80-year-old guitars in existence.
It carries an estimated price of between $150,000 (£108,734) and $250,000.
Also included in the lot and expected to fetch a similar amount are a 1958 Gibson Flying V and a 1960 Gibson Les Paul.
A 1952 Fender Telecaster and an 1864 Antonio de Torres acoustic guitar are also up for sale.
The most expensive item going under the hammer is a 1765 Gennaro Gagliano cello, which is valued between $200,000 and $300,000.
Gagliano is thought to be the best craftsman of his famous instrument-making family and was influenced by Stradavari and Amati, according to AllViolin.com.
