Rare musical instruments going under the hammer
A number of rare stringed musical instruments are to be sold by auction house Christie's next month.
Legendary singing cowboy Roy Rogers used to own the instrument, which was the first to be built from a limited run of 15. Before it was discovered, it was thought that there were only 14 of the 80-year-old guitars in existence.
It carries an estimated price of between $150,000 (£108,734) and $250,000.
The most expensive item going under the hammer is a 1765 Gennaro Gagliano cello, which is valued between $200,000 and $300,000.
Gagliano is thought to be the best craftsman of his famous instrument-making family and was influenced by Stradavari and Amati, according to AllViolin.com.Posted on 12 Mar 2009 11:26 to category : Instruments News
