Radiohead star: BBC 6 Music closure will hurt new bands
Ed O'Brien, an electric guitar player in Radiohead, has added his voice to the growing number of musicians campaigning against the planned closure of BBC 6 Music.
He has sent a letter to the BBC Trust about the decision correspondence that was then published on the Radiohead At Ease blog.
O'Brien stated that he had been left "completely shocked and baffled" by the planned move.
The electric guitar player added that he wondered if the people behind the closure "are aware of the hugely important role that 6 Music plays in fostering and promoting new bands, as well as still playing the likes of the band that I am in".
O'Brien said that the end of BBC 6 Music would be a "huge blow" to upcoming bands looking to get some exposure for their music.
The Radiohead star joins David Bowie, Mark Ronson and more than 100,000 members of a Facebook group in protesting against the decision.Posted on 4 Mar 2010 07:54 to category : Music News
