Radiohead songs get classical interpretation
Steve Reich, a pioneering minimalist musician, is to create symphonic versions of Everything in its Right Place and Jigsaw Falling into Place.
The new works will get their debut in March and be performed by 13 members of the London Sinfonietta.
This amazing project came about after Mr Reich met the experimental group in Poland. It was an important union.
Andrew Burke, chief executive of the London Sinfonietta, told the Guardian that it was the first time Mr Reich had met the band, which resulted in them discussing various musical concepts and ideas at length.
"I don't think Steve will be quoting these songs directly – I don't think that's his style," said Mr Burke.
"How he uses the songs as a starting point for what he does is going to be part of the excitement. But ultimately I'm most excited by the fact that we've got a new work by Steve Reich."
In 2010, the minimalist-influenced Mr Reich was described by the Guardian's music critic Andrew Clements as one of "a handful of living composers who can legitimately claim to have altered the direction of musical history".
