Radiohead drummer's 'trial and error' album
Posted on 10 Aug 2010 07:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Philip Selway doesn't think his solo songs wouldn't work for Radiohead.
The band's drummer - who is set to release debut solo album 'Familial' at the end of the month - revealed the record has been in the making for seven years, as it required a lot of "trial and error" to get the right sound.
He said: "It's had a very long gestation period. It's something that grew out of stuff I was writing on the road and in my own bedroom, going back about seven or eight years. These fragments of music gained a head of steam, and I reached a point where I came to see their potential as a collection of songs that I couldn't see working for Radiohead.
"My first attempts at singing didn't marry up with what I thought I was doing. There was a lot of trial and error, finding something that was musical and conversational at the same time."
However, the rocker - whose bandmate Thom Yorke previewed one of the group's new tracks at this weekend's Big Chill festival - admitted while his solo efforts have now taken shape, he "isn't sure" when the band's next album will be finished.
He added to Billboard magazine: "We're working on new material, but we're not rushing and not sure when it will be finished. We work for fairly intense chunks of time, then step away from it in order to come back with fresh ears. Those times away from each other definitely help the process."
