RHCP drummer 'records children's album with Dick van Dyke'

The musical career of Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith has taken an unlikely twist he has helped veteran actor Dick van Dyke to record an album of songs aimed at children.
Van Dyke, star of Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Diagnosis Murder, told Spinner.com that Smith played an important part on the Rhythm Train record.
"Once he starts going, you got it. He kind of drives you," said the actor, who raps on the record under the name DVD.
Smith's four-year-son was the inspiration behind one of the tracks on the record Cole's Train.
The drummer said there are plenty of musical instruments around his house for his children to try out.
"I play a little guitar, a little piano; we have a drum set here and there. It's fortunate they are exposed to it that way," he said.
Earlier this month, John Frusciante, Smith's former bandmate in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, was named as the best guitar player of the last 30 years by listeners to BBC 6 Music.
