REM line up guest stars for new album
REM's forthcoming album features a series of cameos from various music stars, the band's bass guitar player Mike Mills has revealed.
Speaking to Spin magazine, Mills said that Collapse Into Now, which is pencilled in to be released in early 2011, includes contributions from Patti Smith, Peaches and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.
He added that the record has a considerably different feel to Accelerate's politically-inspired lyrics and fast songs.
"We wanted to put more variety into it," the bass guitar player explained.
"There are some really slow, beautiful songs, there are some nice, mid-tempo ones and then there are three or four rockers."
He added that the band had enjoyed recording the album in a number of different locations, including Berlin, New Orleans and Nashville.
Earlier this year, REM's 1981 single Radio Free Europe was selected as one of 25 songs to be included in the US National Recording Registry housed at the Library of Congress.
