REM: We'll never get back together again
However, Michael Stipe, the band's former frontman, has said it was very unlikely that REM would get back together again in the foreseeable future.
Speaking on the BBC's Newsnight programme, Stipe and bass guitar player Mike Mills explained that even a reunion tour was out of the question.
Stipe said: "We're not [getting back together]. It's done.
"It's bittersweet, but it's strangely liberating. It's oddly liberating and we're very comfortable with that.
REM first came together in 1980 and stormed to fame with their two monster albums Out of Time and Automatic for the People.
Some of their most famous songs include Shiny Happy People, Losing My Religion and Imitation of Life.
Their farewell single is called We All Go Back To Where We Belong.
