Q Awards add categories
Posted on 28 Jul 2010 10:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News

The Q Awards will have three new categories this year.
The annual ceremony, hosted by the British music magazine, will see Best Female Artist and Best Male Artist categories added to the roll of honour, as well as a new accolade for Next Big Thing, which will highlight the most exciting new musical talent of the year.
Comedian Al Murray - who will host the event for the second year running - said: "This is the music event of the year, everyone wants a Q Award, and if they're truly lucky, like Muse last year, they might win a frozen chicken too."
Paul Rees, editor-in-chief of Q Magazine, explained the new categories have been introduced to the event - which is to be held on October 25 in London - to specifically recognise new music talent within the UK.
He said: "Q firmly believes that music now is as exciting and vital as it's ever been and that it continues to be consistently refreshed by new talent. The extra awards this year recognise Q's ongoing commitment to the best things in music right now and in the future.
"In addition, Q has also always been about celebrating music's great success stories. And, as ever, our collection of merit awards will recognise the heroic achievements and ongoing influence of music's true icons."
Previous Q Awards winners include Oasis, Sir Paul McCartney, Blur, Kylie Minogue and Ian Brown.
