Pianos prize awarded

Leeds International Piano Competition success for Federico Colli.
Great deals on musical instruments
Many music instruments players might have heard Federico Colli playing the piano on BBC Radio 3 recently, in the finals of this year's Leeds International Piano Competition.

Those folk will likely have heard that he was named the winner of the event, too. Several further players gained positions in second to sixth place.

These included second-placed Louis Schwizgebel and third-placed Jiayan Sun. Mr Colli gained £18,000 through his win.

"The standard of this year's competition was exceptionally high and the six prize winners were all truly remarkable as we have heard at this afternoon's wonderful Gala Recital," commented Leeds International Piano Competition's artistic director and chairman, Dame Fanny Waterman on its website.

Well known piano and keyboards players in the world of pop music, meanwhile, include the likes of Elton John, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Fidelity singer Regina Spektor and the woman behind recent album Theatre Is Evil, Amanda Palmer.
