Phil Collins planning Motown covers album
Posted on 18 Apr 2010 09:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Phil Collins, the man behind the drum kit in Genesis, has announced he is going to release an album of Motown cover songs.
Collins revealed that he has put his own take on tracks originally made famous by soul legends such as Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield and The Supremes.
"My idea, though, was not to bring anything 'new' to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them," the one-time drummer stated.
Collins will also perform tracks such by artists including Smokey Robinson, the Four Tops and Martha and the Vandellas on the record, which is to be called Going Back and will be released in September 2010.
The drummer was himself once subject to a tribute album, with a host of R'n'B and hip-hop stars including Kelis, Lil' Kim and Ray J, performing tracks from the musician's career.
It was first released in 2001 under the title Urban Renewal.
