People are being encouraged to get out their music instruments and take part in the first ever crowd-sourced Christmas single.

Organised by comedian Matt Berry, the single will see members of the public recording their own version using whatever music instrument they wish and sending their contributions into Absolute Radio, where they will be included in the final version of the song, alongside Berry himself.

The track, which is entitled A Christmas Song, by Matt Berry and Everybody, will then be released via iTunes on December 4th, with the hope of earning a coveted place in the Christmas chart.

Money made from sales of the festive track will be donated to the homelessness charity Shelter.

Berry said: “Christmas is about being inclusive, sharing and selfless, much like this song. My aim is to release a Christmas single that a whole bunch of people, young and old, can say they were a part of. Please show your support for the project and for Shelter and let's do something original.”

Any contributions, whether they vocal or involve people playing the guitar, drums, or even the saucepans, need to be sent to Absolute Radio by November 14th.

Matt Berry has previously released three albums.
