Pearl Jam in Christmas guitar surprise
That guitar had in fact been gifted to Josh Hardy in 1992 by the band in partnership with the charity Make A Wish, who was dying from brain cancer.
It was subsequently bequeathed to his young brother Ben, who has looked after it since then.
However, the Fender electric guitar was stolen along with other possessions. Although it was recovered, the band's signatures had been wiped away in a bid to sell the instrument.
Pearl Jam heard about this and were straight on the case, making this a Christmas Ben's family would never forget.
"FedEx delivered a new guitar," Ben told the Boston Herald.
"In a note Pearl Jam said they've been following the story and this is what they decided to do. It's an amazing gesture of goodwill. It exceeds expectations... They went above and beyond."
His mother added that for the band to do this and remember Josh after all these years was amazing and incredible.
Pearl Jam are set to perform at the Isle of Wight festival next year.
