Paul Weller tipped for Mercury Prize win
Electric guitar player Paul Weller has pulled ahead as the favourite to win this year's MasterCard Mercury Prize
The veteran performer, who has enjoyed success as a member of the Style Council and The Jam before becoming a solo artist, has taken the lead from former favourites The XX.
According to the bookmaker William Hill, Weller is now the favourite with odds of 1/10 for his release Wake the Nation, with The XX's self-titled album recording odds of 7/4.
This nomination is the second time that the electric guitar player has been up for the prestigious music prize, having received a nod in 1994 for his Wild Wood release.
Rapper Dizzee Rascal is also up for the award for a third time, but bookmakers are not offering odds on him being in line to pick up a hat-trick of prizes as he is only being offered odds of 40/1.
The winner of will be announced tonight (September 7th) during a live broadcast on BBC 2.
