Electric guitar player Paul Weller is to be honoured by the NME as the latest recipient of its Godlike Genius award.
Weller, who played in The Jam and Style Council before embarking on a solo career, will pick up the prize at an awards night to be held at Brixton Academy later this month (February 24th 2010).
But the electric guitar player was rather modest when asked for his reaction to the news.
"I'm very happy to accept the award, I don't feel godlike or a genius but I'm happy to have it," said Weller.
Krissi Murison, editor of the NME, said the award was deserved as Weller has managed to stay relevant to today's music scene despite first appearing on the cover of the magazine back in 1977.
Last month, Weller said he was pleased to team up once again with former Jam bandmate Bruce Foxton, who has played bass guitar on two tracks of The Modfather's new album, Wake Up The Nation.
