Paul Simon turned to a psychiatrist to get guitar skills back
Paul Simon has revealed he turned to a retired psychiatrist for help when he suffered from bouts of self loathing which left him unable to play the guitar without a pain in his hands.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, the musician, whose hits include Bridge Over Troubled Water and Mrs Robinson, said: "I really attacked myself. It was a brutal attack. I didn't tell anybody.
"It was like a voice inside me was really attacking me."
He revealed that the advice the psychiatrist gave him was to imagine the voices inside his head were Bugs Bunny.
"That was a way of saying, 'Don't pay attention to yourself.' It was good advice." He added.
Simon also revealed that he is looking forward to picking up his acoustic guitar and hitting the road with his partner Art Garfunkel again.
The pair's last tour was cut short when Garfunkel fell ill, however, they are hoping to resume the Old Friends shows at the end of the year.
Simon and Garfunkel have been known to have a troubled relationship, which led to them parting ways in 1970 following a decade-long career.
However, they insist they have put these differences aside now.
