Posted on 26 May 2010 11:07 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Guitar legend Paul McCartney is to pick up a prestigious honour at the White House next month.
The former Beatle is to be presented with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, it has been announced.
He will be the third musician to receive the award, following in the footsteps of Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon.
According to the organisers of the prize, it is a gift bestowed on musicians "whose creative output transcends distinctions between musical styles and idioms, bringing diverse listeners together, and fostering mutual understanding and appreciation."
McCartney will be handed the honour on June 2nd 2010, as part of a special concert at the White House which is to include the likes of Elvis Costello, Jack White and Corinne Bailey Rae performing covers of his songs.
The guitar player is due to have a busy time in June, as he is also scheduled to play shows in Dublin, Glasgow and Cardiff, as well as at the Isle of Wight and Hard Rock Calling festivals.
