Sir Paul McCartney has dismissed rumours that he is planning to hang up his bass guitar and retire.

Last week, an unnamed source told the Sun that the former Beatles and Wings star was planning one final trek across the world ahead of his 70th birthday.

However, he told the Boston Herald that there is no truth behind these rumours and that he is planning to carry on performing for as long as he can.

"As long as people want to come and hear me, I'll probably be doing this," Sir Paul commented.

He added that rumours of his retirement are almost as ridiculous as the Paul Is Dead myth that began to circulate in the 1960s.

Sir Paul has recently been touring in the US, treating fans to classics such as Jet, Paperback Writer, Day Tripper and A Day in the Life, as well as songs from his latest album Electric Arguments.
