Paul McCartney: I wanted to play bass guitar in Them Crooked Vultures
Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he asked if he could play bass guitar in supergroup Them Crooked Vultures - but was turned down by Dave Grohl.
Them Crooked Vultures consists of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Queen of the Stone Age star Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin guitarist John Paul Jones.
Sir Paul told the Daily Mail that he first heard about the group from Grohl in February last year when the ex-Nirvana drummer revealed Homme and himself were putting together a new outfit.
"I asked him who was playing bass and he rather sheepishly told me he'd approached John," Sir Paul said.
"So you read it here first - Paul McCartney was nearly the bass player in Them Crooked Vultures."
Despite not getting to be the bass guitarist in the band, Sir Paul had a successful end to last year as he embarked on a brief European tour that included a show at the 02 venue in London.Posted on 19 Jan 2010 14:21 to category : Band / Celebrity News
