Papa Roach singer tackles demons
Posted on 6th Sep 2010 07:00 to category Music News
Papa Roach singer Jacoby Shaddix has realised he is his own inner "madman".
The singer for the emo rock group said he did a lot of self evaluation ahead of recording the band's latest album 'Time For Annihilation' and realised the person he has raged against most was himself.
He told website theaquarian.com: "The thing I finally realised in my search for the f*ing madman that's been chasing me. I just realised that it's myself.
"It's a hard realisation to take, that all of these people that you resented and all these things that you hate about the world is all a reflection of yourself. It's a little bit of a hard pill to swallow."
Jacoby said this new worldview comes across in songs such as 'The Enemy', but that his realisations have also meant he looks after himself much better now.
He added: "It's also cool to realise I am the deviant and to take responsibility for myself and just be a little more mindful of how I treat myself first and foremost. If I treat myself better, then everything else is going to work out."
Jacoby, who is the band's lyricist, credits the continuing success of the band - who have sold over ten million albums - to his songwriting partnership with bassist Tobin Esperance.
He said: "I'm super outgoing, he's an introvert. I am very emotionally expressive, and he's very quiet and holds everything inside. We've talked about this-when it truly comes down to it, he expresses his emotions through sounds. He doesn't talk about his st. We possess qualities that the other one doesn't have. We truly make a songwriter. Without each other we couldn't do this."
'Time For Annihilation' is out now.
