Orange Amps Go On Tour with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of the Mars Volta and At the Drive-In
When playing with At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta, Omar used AD140 stacks with four heads and four cabs in his set-up. "Once I started playing the different Orange Amps I just felt it was that thing I'd been looking for".
In his new band, Bosnian Rainbows, Rodriguez-Lopez swaps the huge stacks he used in his previous bands for the Orange Rockerverb 50. The MKII version of the combo amp has improved functionality, including mid EQ control on the clean channel and more useable reverb with an ECC83 preamp valve. The FX loop is more transparent and there are Clean and Dirty channels. "It works best for me ", said Omar "and it's never let me down since".
Omar's early influence came from the salsa pianists that he grew up listening to, then his sound evolved as he picked up a bass and he settled on guitar when he found he needed more strings. Later on, he became inspired by King Crimson and Pink Floyd's Sid Barrett, studying the gear they were using.
Omar uses a Boss tuner pedal, joking that "without that I wouldn't be able to play! On stage I cannot tune a guitar to save my life". He's streamlined his pedalboard in the last few years- he only takes a few choice favourites on tour with him now, including a Line 6 Looper, Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Nano reverb and Boss SL-20 Slicer.
Bosnian Rainbows will tour the UK and Europe during August and September 2013. For a limited time you can receive a free Orange t-shirt when you buy any Orange product worth over £100 at Gear4music.com.
