Olympic Stadium to re-open as music venue

The stadium will provide another host for major concerts.

The Olympic Stadium is due to be re-opened as a music venue in July, BBC London understands.

The news provider noted that while no final contracts have been signed the structure is expected to host some rock concerts over the busy summer period to rival the likes of Hyde Park.

London is home to a plethora of large music venues with Wembley Stadium and recently Arsenal's Emirates Stadium hosting shows from the likes of Take That, U2 and Coldplay.

The move away from Hyde Park has been attributed to the rising number of complaints due to noise levels.

Bruce Springsteen's show at the venue during the summer of 2012 was famously cut short after the local council decided to pull the plug as the iconic rocker overran the curfew.

Dennis Hone, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: "The exciting thing for us is that we have the opportunity to put on some major events in the park - some music events and festivals and an anniversary weekend on July 27th and 28th."

Discussions are still ongoing between the stadium staff and West Ham about a permanent use for the structure.
