Oasis guitar anthem Live Forever named top song of all time
Listeners of UK radio station XFM, LA-based KROQ and TripleJ in Australia, who made up the voters, seemed to be particularly fond of Oasis.
The Manchester band, who look to be finished after guitarist Noel Gallagher left last weekend, also occupied third and fourth spots with Don't Look Back In Anger and Wonderwall.
In fact, north-west guitar bands dominated the results, with Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart at five and records by The Smiths, The Stone Roses and Verve all making the top ten.
The top 100 was occupied almost exclusively by groups known for the now familiar jangly electric guitar sound perfected by Johnny Marr of The Smiths and aped by hundreds of indie and alternative bands on both sides of the Atlantic.
There was, however, a place for Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit at number seven and for tracks by Massive Attack and Underworld on the fringes of the top 50.Posted on 2 Sep 2009 11:37 to category : Band / Celebrity News
