O2 is world's most popular music venue
Posted on 17 Jan 2010 10:00 to category : Music News

Guitar heroes and singing legends are queuing up to play at the O2 Arena in London, helping it become the world's most popular music venue.
New figures show that the former Millennium Dome sold more than two million tickets last year, dwarfing the amounts sold by rival arenas.
This was fuelled by high-profile gigs from acts such as Cliff Richard and The Shadows, Sir Paul McCartney and Paul Weller.
Residencies by artists including Britney Spears, Tina Turner and Beyonce Knowles also sent music fans flocking to Greenwich in 2009.
David Campbell, president of AEG Europe, commented: "I want to thank all the artists, agents, managers, promoters, the more than 2,500 people who work at the O2 and all our partners.
The venue is now gearing up to host a residency by Bon Jovi, who will be sure to treat fans to classic hits such as Livin' on a Prayer.
However, the O2 Arena did experience one major setback last year, as singer Michael Jackson died in June - just before a planned run of 50 gigs.
