Noddy Holder slams X Factor
Slade's former frontman and electric guitar player Noddy Holder has come out against The X Factor.
The veteran rocker admitted that while it may be great television, it means nothing to him in a musical sense.
Indeed, he told the Sun that the programme is "glorified karaoke" which offers "middle of the road pap" to the masses.
In addition, he complained that good singers are not being encouraged to write their own material, which in turn is making pop music very homogenous.
Holder also accused The X Factor of taking the fun out of the race for the Christmas number one slot.
"There's no competition there," he commented.
"They know it's going to be the X Factor winner."
Holder said his own festive classic, Merry Xmas Everybody, would probably not have topped the charts if it had been released today.
With bass guitar player Jimmy Lea, Holder was responsible for a string of hit singles with Slade, including Coz I Luv You, Cum On Feel the Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now.Posted on 5 Dec 2009 10:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
