"No Smiths reunion," says Marr
The Manchester act were made famous during the 80s, with singer and lyricist Morrissey taking lead crooning duties on their hits such as Panic, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and What Difference Does It Make?
Their track Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want more recently popped up – in a covered version – on a John Lewis advert last Christmas, having also appeared in the film (500) Days of Summer in its original guise.
Now Marr has stated simply: "The rumour of The Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening."
The statement, potentially disappointing for Smiths fans, was apparently made following a music-news.com article appearing that gave the impression that the opposite situation might be the case.
An additional line was added to the story yesterday, saying that: "Denial of this reformation has been rife." It is not made clear whether this refers to Marr's statement.
