Nirvana songs 'relatively easy for new guitarists to pick up'

It is not hard for electric guitar players to learn a number of Nirvana songs, it has been claimed.

Electric guitar players who are just getting started with the instrument may find it relatively simple to learn some of Nirvana's most famous songs.

This is according to Gibson commentator Russell Hall, who said the grunge band's lead singer Kurt Cobain was responsible for inspiring many young people to pick up a guitar for the first time. He noted the chord progressions of many Nirvana songs are fairly easy to copy, even for people without much experience on the guitar.

Mr Hall said this applies to both Nirvana's more up-tempo tunes such as Smells Like Teen Spirit, as well as their more low-key tracks like All Apologies and Something in the Way. He advised learners to watch Cobain's performance on the MTV Unplugged in New York DVD to learn from his playing style.

Last year, a CD and DVD version of the band's legendary performance at the 1992 Reading Festival was released.
